Katlego Maboe returns to Espresso Morning Show

Katlego Maboe, a controversial television personality, will formally return to Expresso Morning Show on Monday of the following week. In a joint statement issued to Sowetan on Tuesday morning, TV station S3 and production business Cardova TV confirmed the information. The presenter who won the SA Film and Television Awards (Safta) was fired from the broadcast in late 2020 as a result of a public cheating scandal and abuse claims made by his ex-partner.

“At the end of 2020, Katlego Maboe took time off as presenter from Expresso to focus on personal matters that stemmed from allegations of abuse that were made against him. After a protracted legal process, the courts absolved Katlego against these allegations in January 2022,” the statement read.

“On his big return next Monday, Katlego will be in conversation with Graeme Richards in what promises to be an emotional sit-down as Katlego unpacks the challenging journey he has been on over the past two years and how he got back to himself.” After the Monday episode of the show, which airs between 6 am and 9 am on weekdays, Maboe will return as a regular host.“It truly is difficult to put into words what I feel at the moment – being back to the place I called home for a decade,” said Maboe.

“I’m filled with so much gratitude for all those who have been supportive and encouraging throughout this journey and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity, once again, to help an incredible team deliver an inspiring show to our people. I’m a mixture of tingling nerves and childlike excitement at the thought of the first ‘Good morning!’ and I hope that when all is said and done, I would have done everyone proud”. Thank you all.

Patience Stevens, Cardova TV MD, said: “Domestic violence is a serious problem in our society and one which Cardova as a company stands strongly against. We are relieved that the legal process has run its course and that Katlego has cleared himself in a court of such allegations. He is a rare talent and we are very happy to be welcoming him back to Expresso.”

“S3 has always viewed the allegations leveled against Mr. Maboe in a serious light and we are delighted that the courts have exonerated him and he can now return to the Expresso family as the host of the show,” said Pat van Heerden, S3 head of the channel. After the Monday episode of the show, which airs between 6 am and 9 am on weekdays, Maboe will return as a regular host.

Since the start of 2022, Maboe has slowly returned to the limelight with presenting gigs, a podcast, and recent live performance. At the eagerly awaited Nedbank International Polo at the Inanda Club early this year, Maboe served as host. Maboe also disclosed that he has teamed up with The Wife star Linda Majola and physician Tshidi Gule to produce a brand-new podcast dubbed The Wellness Plug.

“The wellness podcast experience you’ve been waiting for. Inspiring healthy conversations” reads the new podcast’s Instagram bio.”At this moment, words fail to express the gratitude and joy I feel – all I can say is THANK YOU. Thank you for the love. Thank you for the support. Thank you for the laughs from funny comments that kept me smiling. Thank you for the words of encouragement that kept me taking one more step,” Maboe wrote in a caption announcing his new venture

“I couldn’t be more proud of this incredible team and the mission we have set ourselves to build a supportive and helpful community in which all can find their space and be embraced. We truly hope to serve you with each and every episode we are blessed to have your ear,” he added.
