He said that he hadn’t spoken to Somizi at any point in time and that he hadn’t told him that the lockdown had been extended.

Even though Somizi eventually expressed regret for his behavior, and the Minister accepted it, he still had to take responsibility for his conduct. The department of transportation disclosed that Mbalula would sue Somizi. Fikile Mbalula will proceed to the Sandton Police Station to file charges against the individual for breaking the government lockdown rules, which forbid the dissemination of false information.

Somizi Controversy

Somizi has led a controversial life that is full of excess. As a result of allegedly neglecting to pay R3,4 million in taxes, he ran into difficulty with the taxman.”I went to SARS offices and they nailed me. I sobbed in front of them. I was crying bucketloads… They were going to take my car. I told them the car wasn’t mine. They forced me to sell my house. I tried to stall that and find ways of getting out of the mess without shedding my house. It was tough,” Somizi wrote in his book, Dominoes: Unbreakable Spirit.

According to reports, some of his possessions, including designer bags, a couch covered in crocodile leather, and more than 80 pairs of designer sunglasses, were sold at auction in 2018 by the SA Revenue Service (SARS). While Somizi can afford to fly to Paris, Milan, and New York for pricey shopping excursions, between 2006 and 2009, he was broke, in debt, and depressed.

“It was difficult to the point that I cried every day. At night I felt better that the day was over and I hoped for a better day tomorrow. But when I woke up and realized that I was still in that, I’d cry all over again. I started ostracizing myself,” he wrote in his book. The breakup of his friendship with Bonang Matheba, a media favorite in South Africa, also generated controversy. They lost touch in late 2015, but in 2018, they overcame their differences and rekindled their relationship.
