The best sounds of South African Music have been announced at The Garden Venue Boutique Hotel in Randburg after two years of absentia due to covid 19 regulations protocol. SAMA awards were first hosted in Joburg at Montecasino, Fourways in 2011, Before that the traditional venue was the Sun City Superbowl in North West Province.
SAMA’s are rated as the uppermost musical accolade an artist, band or producer can get in South Africa, making it the most popular award for musical excellence in the country.
The awards are wide-ranging to all genres and include production, engineering, and video. The Recording Industry of South Africa organizes them (RiSA). RiSA is a Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) is a trade association that represents the collective interests of producers of music sound recordings and major and independent record labels in South Africa.
This year’s event was made possible by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, SAMPRA, CAPASSO, White Star, SAMRO, RAV, DRIP, and TikTok.

With each year of the partnership, the South African Music Awards and SABC 1, as a collective, shine a light on the music industry and the artists in their respective genres. This year’s awards have seen a record number of entries in its submission a record number of 1395 submission has been received months before the closing of the nomination date and more than 100 nominees were announced. The categories with record entries include Best Collaboration (180), Best Hip Hop Album (179), Best Produced Music Video (149), Best Dance Album (73), and Best Amapiano Album (68).

Singer, Record ProducerZakhele Madida Also known As Zakes Bantwinin dominates the nomination list with seven Nods. The Awards will take place on 31 July and will be Broadcasted on the National Broadcast (SABC1) at 8 pm.
