Fans react as Royal AM Chairman nearly debut PSL

On Tuesday night, Royal AM chairperson and musician Andile Mpisane came alarmingly close to making his PSL debut, causing a social media uproar. Mpisane was listed as a substitute but did not enter the game when his team faced Richards Bay FC.

Royal AM entered the match with the intention of clipping the wings of their soaring opponents but was defeated by a Siphelele Magubane goal in the 26th minute. Magubane scored during a goalmouth melee that had spectators on the edge of their seats.Owner of Royal AM Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize described Mpisane’s position in the club in March.

She said that he had been given responsibility for leading Royal’s DStv Diski Challenge team. As part of his mentoring for a much bigger position in the senior team in the future, his duties include signing players for the reserves team.

“Andile knows his football. Andile can analyze a game from the beginning to the end. As we speak now, he’s got a full role in Diski. He is getting valuable information from the people who have been in the game for a long time such as Sinky Mnisi, Richard Makhoba and John Maduka,” said Mkhize.

Fans were thrilled to see him on the bench because he had previously played for the team in lower divisions. They immediately took to social media to comment on his imminent debut and forecast that he will not only score goals but also win the game.

As he balances his responsibilities as the club chairman of Royal AM with numerous off-field endeavors, Mpisane is one of the PSL’s busiest club chairmen right now. The 21-year-old has gained national attention recently after signing a contract with Def Jam Records Africa, a firm that is home to numerous influential artists like Nadia Nakai, Cassper Nyovest, Boity, and Nasty C.

Royal AM road to PSL

Shauwn Mkhize, a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur, and her son Andile Mpisane, the youngest chairwoman in PSL history, formed Royal AM Football Club in 2020. Since they previously held the positions of junior chairman and president of Royal Eagles FC, respectively, neither Shauwn nor Andile require an introduction to the world of football.

Bloemfontein Celtics, a team that had previously competed in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for more than 50 years, was acquired by Royal AM in August 2021. After changing its name to Royal AM FC, Bloemfontein Celtics was given the chance to compete in the PSL for the first time since its founding (2021/22). Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila F.C. from Limpopo purchased the club’s current standing in the Glad-Africa Championship Division. Additionally, the recently established Royal AM FC includes two youth teams: an under-21 squad that competes in the Multi Diski Challenge and a development team that competes in the SAB league, which is overseen by the SAFA Durban Central Regional Office.

Royal AM FC competed in the (2020–2021) Glad–Africa Championship and took first place in the standings at the conclusion of the competition. But the group was not automatically promoted to the DStv Premiership.
