Bafana Bafana players injured pre-AFCON clash

Cape Town City defender Terrence Mashego has been released from the camp and will not be traveling to Morocco with the team he has sustained a knee injury whilst another defender of Orlando Pirates Innocent Maela suffered an abductor problem during the Royal AM match.

Mr. Broos’ Bafana returns to a competitive clash in the continental cup this week after a 5-0 loss against France in March

African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the main international men’s association football competition in Africa and is sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football. The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nation will be held at Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) from 23 June 2023-end of July 2023

Bafana has been placed in group K of the 2023 Qualifiers alongside Morocco, Liberia, and Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, Zimbabwe has been ruled out of the tournament by Federation Internationale Football Association (FIFA) after the governing body of the association failed to a suspension imposed on them.

“Mashego is out, with a meniscus injury, So he’ll have to go back to Cape Town and get an operation. It’s stupid because nothing was happening, he just turned his knee, not in a duel or anything. So okay, we miss him. There is no time to replace him because there is a visa and all the things. But this is not a problem for Bafana” coach Broos said as quoted by DiskiTimes.

Bafana Bafana coach added “Maela is more fear. So he had an operation, I think, in December, on the other side. Now he felt something, he is afraid when he will go 100% that again so I think he will be ready for Thursday, so we have a little bit to be calm with him and for Ronwen Williams, there is no problem. It was a little bit swollen, his knee, after the game on Monday for SuperSport. But now, okay, he was doing exercises, but exercise for the upper body, nothing really with his legs”.
