Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka join Kaya 959

Out with the old in with the new, Kaya 959 issues a statement that sees them welcome two multi-talented media personalities with extensive experience in radio.

Kaya 959, the Joburg adult and contemporary radio station formerly known as Kaya FM has changed its sounds, imaging, and tagline from ‘Home of the Afropolitans’ to On ‘Air and on the Streets.

The statement issued by the station regarding the recruits reads: Kaya 959 is proud to welcome Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka to the station’s growing family. The move is in line with the continuous repositioning the station has embarked on since 2021.

Dineo is widely acknowledged for her mastery of the craft of radio.”Her radio savvy, dynamic personality, and life experience coupled with Sol’s sharp wit and broad knowledge are just the combination Kaya 959 needs to make a mark with the Code-Switcher who is on a journey to advance themselves” says Kaya 959 MD Sibongile Mtyali. The presenters will resume their duties on (1 July 2022).

Sol Phenduka a co-presenter of the biggest podcast in Africa has given his view regarding the new opportunity at his disposal “It’s been a while since I’ve been on radio and I am excited and looking forward to it I am very grateful for the opportunity,” said Sol.
The podcast subscribers need not be worried about Sol’s possibilities of departure in the podcast, He has assured that he will juggle both radio and podcast.

The podcast subscribers need not be worried about Sol’s possibilities of departure in the podcast, He has assured that he will juggle both radio and podcast.

“I will still be doing the podcast. The two don’t clash at all; one is for a completely different audience on the internet and the other one is terrestrial radio. I’ll remain to do it. As many may know, I have been on the radio before and have lots of experience with the medium and I believe there is still enough freedom for my personality to shine. I’ll be myself.”

Sol understands very well that the explicit content on the radio is limited unlike on the podcast but he assures his fans he will still be himself and still think to his toes even though the platform is different.”I’ll still be myself but not as explicit. The podcast has an age restriction of 18 years old and radio has language perimeters that one has to adhere to. I look forward to working with all Kaya959 presenters. I still tune in to listen to Tbose the legend, Sizwe, and Mbali Dlamini whom I have worked with at YFM.”

The season Radio personality Dineo Ranaka broke the news of her leaving Metro FM on her show ‘The Bridge’ she hosted the show alongside Lerato Kganyago on weekdays between 10 am and midday. The statement reads “After 4 years, Dineo Ranaka’s time at Metro FM has come to an end. Her last show on air will be on Friday, 17th June 2022,”.

Speaking to Drum about her next move Dineo says “My time at Metro FM has been nothing short of amazing and adventurous. I have enjoyed my relationship with management, colleagues, listeners, as well as advertisers. It has truly been beautiful, An opportunity to expand me has been presented to me and it was one I couldn’t resist.”

Dineo has since thanked the SABC for allowing her to show what she is made of and will miss the freedom to be herself on the airways, “There’s truly nothing I won’t miss. Metro FM is surely an institute where I have had the most fun in my radio career thus far. I was entrusted with a great responsibility to increase listenership as well revenue and have excelled in both because of the freedom and acceptance I was granted,” she says.
