Former Miss SA Liesl Laurie leaves Jacaranda FM

On Tuesday afternoon, Liesl Laurie announced her resignation from Jacaranda FM. After serving as a radio host for 7 years, the former Mis SA will be leaving.

“Saying goodbye is never easy, I’m going to miss the morning family as well as Martin and the JacaBreakfast team, but I’m so thankful for this experience and to have grown in a medium I have so much love and respect for,” Laurie said in a statement on Jacaranda FM.

Additionally, she stated that “this Thursday,” June 30, would be the final show she would host on Breakfast with Martin Bester with her beloved team.

After her reign as Miss South Africa in 2015, the former pageant queen began her career at Jacaranda FM in 2016. In 2021, the group took home the prize for Best Breakfast Show on a Commercial Station at the South African Radio Awards.

The CTM Top 20 with Liesl Laurie was Laurie’s first show, which she hosted every Saturday from 20:00 to 2:00. Later, she joined radio personality Martin Bester for the weekday morning show.

Hennie Myburgh, Jacaranda FM Programme Manager, said in a statement: “Mid-year is the regular point for contract renewal in our business cycle, we spoke with Liesl about our collective priorities and made a decision to close this chapter together.”

The positive energy was exchanged with the radio host by media figures after the news broke out.

“You grew so much there I can’t wait to see what you get up next. All the best angel loads of love” wrote Minnie Dlamini.

“Keep going boldly towards your dreams @liesllaurie  You have a strong tribe of supporters! Stay shining! And if you can fit it into your busy schedule please make our friend @drmusamthombeni a househusband Geluk en alle liefde, wrote media personality Zizo Tshwete. What Laurie’s next destination still remains unknown.

Every weekday from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m., Jacaranda FM regulars will keep Martin Bester and Xola Ntshinga company while listeners may continue to enjoy their favorite morning show until a new team member is introduced.

In April 2014, she completed her Bachelor of Commerce General degree from the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus.

In 2010 and 2014, respectively, Laurie placed second in the Miss Soweto and Miss Mamelodi Sundowns beauty pageants before being named the winner of Miss South Africa 2015.

On March 29, 2015, Zipozakhe Zokufa, the current Miss South Africa 2015, gave Laurie her crown. The Miss South Africa Pageant was held at the Sun City Super Bowl. Laurie came victorious against 11 rivals in the main competition.

Laurie competed in the Miss World 2015 pageant in Sanya, China, as Miss South Africa, one of 114 participants. She was one of the Top 10 finalists and the competitor who placed highest among all African contestants, earning the title of Continental Queen of Africa.
