Influencer Spotlight: Sbahle Mpisane

Sbahle Mpisane is one of the mega social media influencers of South Africa who have built country-wide popularity through social media. The Durban-born fitness enthusiast grew up battling with insecurities about her body. Ironically, her full figure would be what would bring her a worldwide following and being covered on South Africa’s number 1 lifestyle and glamour TV show, top billing.

According to Sbahle:

“I wasn’t ready for the reception that I would receive on the social media platform. When I started on Instagram, I did not know what my purpose was and wasn’t particularly fond of taking pictures. So, I was like let me just post everything about fitness and health, which is something I like.”

Her profile grew from zero to a point where she has over 1000 followers a day. At the time of writing, her followership stands at 1.1 million, making her one of the biggest influencers in South Africa. Her fans span across the world and are ever increasing.

In her own words, the value that Sbahle takes from her stardom is in doing something that benefits other people. She enjoys that she encourages her audience to make positive changes toward their health, which in turn motivates her to keep doing what she is doing.

“I always tell people that it’s important for you to eat wise in order for you to achieve the body you want. I always double-check everything I’m eating, so it all starts in the kitchen for me. Health and Fitness has changed my life in so many ways. Starting from my confidence as a person and as a woman with curves and just appreciating my curves. Appreciating who I am, and breaking out of societal norms as well.”

Sbahle’s Bootcamp

Sbahle hosts a fitness bootcamp for women which runs weekly on Thursday at various locations that include the Durban Amphitheatre. The weekly sessions sell for around R120 and fellow gym fanatics even get the chance to win a lunch date with Sbahle.

One of her students, Kanya Mazula was eager to sing her praises and the positive changes Sbahle inspired in her life:

“She has inspired me to change my life and to acquire physical fitness. She’s such a phenomenal woman. She’s an exceptional woman and I really look up to her” said Masuza.
