Lalela Mswane, recently named Miss Supranational 2022, has expressed her appreciation and excitement following her spectacular victory at the international pageant on Friday night. Mswane, 24, represented South Africa with pride by winning the coveted championship following a three-hour finale event at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheatre in Nowy Scz, Poland.

She triumphed after defeating competitors from 69 different nations. She was followed by Miss Thailand, Miss Venezuela, Miss Vietnam, and Miss Indonesia. In October 2021, Lalela was crowned Miss South Africa. She competed in the Miss Universe pageant in 2021 and was awarded the second runner-up.
Mswane made history on Friday when she won the title for the first time as a woman of colour from South Africa. Thato Mosehle had previously held the record for the first woman of colour to represent South Africa at the pageant, the first to do so under the official Miss SA banner, and the first to place in the Top 3. She broke her record this year.

She wore a patterned dress by designer Lloyd Kandlin with beaded accents as her national costume for the pageant. Lalela is unquestionably smart; she holds a Bachelor of Law degree and hails from KwaSokhulu in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.
The annual Miss Supranational pageant for women debuted in 2009 and holds the majority of its competitions in Poland, and the sibling Mister Supranational competition for men, which debuted in 2016 and is also held there, are both worldwide affairs.
2020 saw the announcement by the Miss South Africa Organization that it would also send a representative to Miss Supranational in addition to Miss Universe and Miss World.Prior to 2020, South Africa had sent competitors to the international competition under the official Miss South Africa Organization banner.
World Beauty Association S.A. and Nowa Scena, whose president is the production company’s founder Gerhard Parzutka Von Lipinsky, are the current owners of Miss and Mister International.
Supranational refers to having authority or influence over governments or national boundaries. The World Beauty Association hosts the annual Miss Supranational international beauty competition. Ukraine was crowned the winner of the inaugural pageant, which took place in Poland in 2009.

Mswane expressed her “overwhelm” at the victory on Friday night, stating “at the moment it still feels surreal, I am deeply thankful to all the amazing people who have supported and uplifted me, I couldn’t have done it without them. I want to thank the organizers of Miss Supranational, the Polish people, all my fellow contestants, the Miss SA organization, and my SA fans. This title is not mine alone, it is SA’s victory” said Mswane.
Stephanie Weil, CEO of Miss South Africa, added to this by saying “We are incredibly proud of Lalela and she really deserved this win. It is a victory for her and SA and we can’t wait to see what she will achieve on the international stage.”
